Howdy, fellow beauty junkies! It’s only a week until Christmas — I can’t believe how quickly it’s coming up! I need more time! I haven’t even started wrapping presents yet — oops! LOL
I don’t have a beauty related post for y’all, but I did want to show off our cute little Christmas tree — it’s a shorty, but our place is small, so it’s perfect! I put it on a two-tier end table, so our presents can go underneath it.
In the picture, I kind of cut off the angel on top, but she’s holding a little light. She looked awkward on top of the tree holding nothing, lol. No lights on the tree, but it doesn’t need any — when light hits it, it sparkles all on its own. 😀
How’s everyone else’s holiday coming? Are you as woefully behind as me? Do you have your tree up yet? Are your gifts all wrapped up yet?
I probably won’t have another post up until after Christmas, but I wanted to wish everyone a joyous holiday!
Howdy, my fellow beauty junkies! If you live in the US, I hope you had a delicious Thanksgiving! The Hubby & I ate at 3 different shindigs this year, including our own — we got stuffed (haha!) 😉
After a day (or two) to recoup from a turkey & dressing induced coma, I felt like trying something different with my makeup; I’d been using the same foundation for over a week — gasp!
So, after digging through my drawer of foundations I spotted my Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation (in Classic Ivory). I hadn’t used that for a while, mainly because it was so hard to apply without it caking up with the sponge I was using. That’s when I realized — ding, ding! — Birchbox sent me an Original Beauty Blender!
I know, I know. What rock have I been hiding under?! Everyone & their mother have tried the Beauty Blender. Well, I’m finally joining the club! 🙂
Honestly? This little pink, egg-shaped sponge is the most awesome makeup tool, ever. Period.
I wet it, squeezed out the water & dunked the Beauty Blender into my pot of Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. The first thing I noticed was how smoothly & evenly the foundation went on, compared to other sponges. The second was how little foundation I needed to get the coverage I wanted, compared to other sponges. The pointy end was great for application around my eyes & nose, & really came in handy.
& let me say, Maybelline is all that, too. I know, their Dream Matte Mousse Foundation isn’t as prestigious as a $60 foundation, but that only makes Dream Matte Moussethat much more awesome! It’s got such great, buildable coverage.
Anyway, I’m kicking myself for not using my Beauty Blender before now, because it really is all that!
Have you experienced the wonder of the Beauty Blender? What about the knock-offs? Do you think the knock-offs work as well as the Original?
It’s that wonderful time of the month again…Ipsy bag day! 😀 (I actually got it on Saturday, but real life has been hectic; I’m sure y’all understand)
November’s theme is “Girl Meets Glitter” & the bag is a glittery silver with pink trim. Need I even mention how much I adore this bag?! Forever 21 Cosmetics partnered with Ipsy this month on the bag.
In addition to my regular 5 items, I turned in 250 ipsyPoints to get a Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil. This chubby pencil applies very smoothly & looks very nice on my skin tone. It blends out into a nice, subtle, non-shimmery ivory color. I put it on over my primer & the color lasted all day. I was bumming after I picked this item, but I’m glad I did now!
Now, onto to the regular items! First up, SeaRx Micro-Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub. Like usual, I was bumming when I saw this in my glam room instead of more makeup, but honestly? This stuff is uh-maz-ing, in every sense of the word! It’s got a nice lemon-y scent that I love. & talk about smooth skin after using it! Even my Hubby noticed the difference! Now my only disappointment in this item is that it isn’t the full-size. 😉
Next up, Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Hairspray. This is a travel size, which is OK with me, as I rarely do more with my hair than brush it & put it in a pony. I haven’t used this product — yet. Not sure when I will LOL but I will one day! I’m happy to have received this item, but not really? IDK LOL
I joined Ipsy for the makeup, so let’s get to it! I’m loving the StarLooks lip gloss in Guilty Pleasure. It’s a pink-mauve color that adds a hint of color to my lips without being in yo face about it. It lasts a while without needing a touch-up. It’s got the typical lip gloss feel & I don’t really think it’s all that moisturizing — but it is a very nice gloss.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t get a good night’s sleep & let me tell you, if you’re in that boat with me you’ll love IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye. This is available in 4 shades, I received Neutral Medium & it blends perfectly into my skin tone. This highly pigmented, buildable formula covers everything without creasing or cracking. I found that it held up all day without fading & even after washing my makeup off I saw an improvement in those dark circles I have. Totally pleased with this!
Last, but certainly not least, is Be A Bombshell Eye Base in Submissive. This shimmery bronze-ish color can be used as an eyeshadow base (& works wonderfully as a base), or it can be used as an eyeshadow (& it looks wonderful!). I had never heard of this brand before Ipsy, but I’ve loved every product I’ve tried of theirs, this included!
Overall, I thought Ipsy hit a homerun with my bag this month! It makes me excited for December’s bag!
What did you get in your bag?! Have you tried any of these products? Give me your opinions in the comments!
This month (due to the birchbox.com website revamp) I wasn’t able to sneak a peek at what I was getting, so when I opened my box it was a total surprise! A very pleasant surprise.
I’ve been wanting to try the Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream since I first joined Birchbox, so seeing that immediately put a smile on my face. With winter already in full swing here (normal high temp is 47°, it’s 23°) my skin has been painfully dry & after using this just once I can tell a huge difference! I’m a fan! I also like that after the one use, I don’t think it’s something I need to use every night. It’s that hydrating.
I wasn’t too excited over the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel for Sensitive Skin. I mean, I do have sensitive skin (so they got that right), but I’m not a “peel person”. I will try it before I knock it, but as of right now, I’m not thrilled with it.
If you haven’t realized this yet, I love mascara; it’s the one bit of makeup that I won’t be seen without. I tend to always go with a waterproof mascara, though, which Mirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24hr Mascara is not. By the end of the day most of this mascara had bled onto my face. I liked everything about this mascara…up until that point. 😦
RUSK Texture Spray (Dry Finishing Spray). I don’t usually spend much time on my hair, but am glad to have received this sample — it gives me a reason to start! I’ve used it once, so far, & did like it. It didn’t make my hair feel stiff or brittle & didn’t look greasy. I’m looking forward to using it some more!
Another item I’ve wanted to sample since I first joined: Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream SPF 35 in Light to Medium. This CC Cream protects against UVA, UVB, & infrared-A rays & works as a primer & foundation. I’ve loved every other Supergoop! product I’ve tried & I love this CC Cream, too! Looked very natural & even after washing it off I could see a difference! Bravo, Supergoop!! 😉
This month I received a bonus in my box; Justin’s Chocolate Almond Butter! Absolutely delicious on toast! Nom nom!
Overall, I’m really happy with my box this month! I hope December is just as awesome! What did you get in your Birchbox? Are you pleased overall? Have you tried any of the products I received & if so, how did you like it/them? Let me know!
The new Maybelline The Nudes Palette is a collection of 12 eyeshadow colors in both matte & shimmery beiges, tans, creams & a black. Included is a double ended eyeshadow brush. Available almost everywhere for around$12, this palette is essential in every woman’s makeup collection!
Ona side note:
If you think you’re tired of nude palettes (OMG, what’s wrong with you?! LOL), Maybelline also offers a companion palette called Maybelline The Smokes Palette for the same price & it is equally as stunning. 😉
Anywho! My biggest disappointment in the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette was that the colors didn’t transfer well to my skin, even with a primer. The beautiful color in the palette seemed seriously muted when worn. That issue is totallynot present in Maybelline’s The Nudes! One swipe & the color on my lids looks exactly like the color in the palette. I mean, that right there was enough to win me over, but there’s more!
I’ve found that wear time is amazing, even without a primer. 12+ hours & it looked just as amazing as when I first put it on! Adding a primer, I’d imagine these eyeshadows wouldn’t budge for days (useful if you got stranded on a desert island for the weekend, but still wanted to look amazing when you were rescued).
Plus, it’s easy to find! No waiting lists, no searching the internet, no 50 mile drive to the mall. No expensive shipping fees.
I’m frugal. I don’t buy $60 eyeshadow quads. I mean, I wish I could, but I can’t. So when I find a product like this I get excited! At ~$1.00 per color, this is totally affordable on any budget…plus it looks just as amazeballs as those snooty palettes that cost an arm & a leg! Win-win, baby! 😀
Overall, Maybelline’s The Nudes Palette gets twobigthumbsup from me! If you don’t have it yet, you need to run to Walgreen’sASAP; you won’t regret it!
Is that a bird? A plane? No, it’s Maybelline’s new The Nudes Palette sitting on my makeup drawer!
That, plus new Face Perfecting Brushes by EcoTools, a Beauty Blender, Maybelline Gel Liner (with brush) & an October Birchbox review. All posts soon to be coming to a blog near you (don’t look around, you’re already here!).
In the meantime, what are some of your new makeup purchases? What makeup/tools are on your Christmas wish list? Let me know in the comments! 🙂
Well, it took a week later than usual to get here, but my Glam Bag finally arrived! 😀
I’m quickly becoming overrun with cute makeup bags, but, dudettes (& dudes, if ipsy is your thing), I can’t help but love the turquoise bag this month! It’s one of my favorite colors & the quilt-like design is perfect for Autumn.
That , & I may be becoming a hoarder. Who knows… So, anyway, on to the goodies!
First up is the skyn ICELAND Glacial Cleansing Cloths. A lot of ipsy reviews were critical of these wipes; either people said they were too harsh for sensitive skin, or said the wipes didn’t really get their skin clean. I have sensitive skin, so was weary the first time I used one…but ya know what? One cloth removed all of my makeup, wasn’t too harsh for my skin & smelled really nice afterward. Not an overbearing scent, but a light cucumber scent. I love these! Plus, I had just run out of my previous wipes, so the timing was great!
Next up, City Color Be Matte Lipstick in Cappucino. To be honest, I wasn’t too excited over the color…until I tried it on. It looks like a 90’s, brown, lip color in the tube…but on? It’s more of a neutral lip color that goes amazing with my fair skin. Plus the product is cruelty-free. Another win!
As an eye makeup freak, I figured I’d like the ModelCo VolumEyes Mascara. I mean, mascara is a daily staple for me. This mascara gets the job done, I just have so many other mascaras that also get the job done & at a lower cost. Don’t get me wrong — I like it, a lot. It’s just…I might still be a tad bitter about not getting the eyeliner instead, though. LOL
I’m always disappointed to get lotions in my subscriptions & I don’t know why! I always end up loving them! I’ve had dry skin since I was tiny & the weather up here does nothing to help that. With all that said, let me introduce Figs & Rouge Mango Mandarin Hand Cream. My dry hands’ new love for the upcoming horribly dry winter (ugh!). The company is from the U.K., which for some reason makes me feel a little high class (I’m weird, I know). It’s non greasy, smells amazing & a little bit of product quenches the dryness. I also like the tube it’s in. Love this hand lotion!
Last, but hardly least, is the Doll 10 H2Glo Highlighter. Now, I’ve had a highlighter before, but never really liked it; it involved a lot blending & I never really achieved the look I was going for. I’m still a little shy using this particular highlighter, but it’s head & shoulders above my old one. Even the directions for the H2Glo Highlighter says “if you have to blend you’ve used too much“. I like straight forward directions like that! While I’m still getting the hang of this, I already love it!
Overall, while this month might have been a headache to get ipsy to take my money, it was well worth it. I loved everything in my bag — including the bag! 🙂
What all did you get in your Glam Bag this month? What was your favorite item? Let me know in the comments!
After wearing almost every color in the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette, I think an honest review is in order!
I was so excited to get this — I saved my Birchbox points for months just to get this puppy. It’s combination of matte & shimmery shadows in neutral champagne to rosy pink to deep berry (plus a true black!), that looks so good! The possibilities are endless!
The color lasted all day, which is one of the most important aspects of any makeup for me (I’m lazy, so reapplying eyeshadow throughout the day isn’t happening).
Every color in the palette looks amazing once it’s on, too. There wasn’t one color that I didn’t like!
& the black shadow has become a staple; I layer it over my eyeliner (I’m loving my Noir eyeliner from a previous Birchbox) on my waterlines & it helps my liner to stay put literally all day long. When I learned that little trick I did a happy jig, no lie!
The down side to the Revealed 2 Palette is only, that to get the color payoff I was expecting, I feel like I have to cake the product on! Which leads to a lot eyeshadow fall out. Which makes frugal me a little disappointed.
Overall, I really do love this eyeshadow palette. I’ve used it every day & will certainly continue to do so. & hey, before this I wasn’t really an eyeshadow person, so I guess I can thank Coastal Scents for getting me interested! 😀
Currently, I’m eyeballing the new Maybelline The Nudes Palette. 😉
Have YOU tried the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 or Maybelline The Nudes Palettes? If so, what was your opinion? Best color combos? Nifty eyeshadow tips & tricks? Let me know in the comments!
