September Birchbox

September Birchbox

For September, I decided to go with the pre-packed Fashionista Box. All of the boxes this month have a colorful design on them, which I think is a nice touch.

September Birchbox

I mean, it was an okay month; the Macadamia Professional Flawless Cleansing Conditioner is a full size & I really, really like it. It has a no suds formula, which was kinda odd at first, but got my hair clean & smooth. My hubby said he likes my regular shampoo better, though, because it makes my hair “go poof!” LOL

In my opinion, silver is a horrendous color for an eyeliner (at least on me)…but Birchbox disagrees. Cynthia Rowley Beauty Silver Eyeliner has a creamy, smudge-proof formula that may be good for creating a smoky eye look on some people, but definitely not for me. This was by far my least favorite product this month.

I decided to go with the Fashionista Box this month mainly for two items, one being the Naobay Body Radiance Lotion, which I had sampled in a previous box. It’s an all natural lotion that hydrates & softens skin without leaving a greasy residue. It has a nice, light lemon scent. I love this lotion!

The other item I really wanted this month was the Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Mascara. It lengthens, volumizes & curls & is waterproof to boot. I have a hundred mascaras that do the same thing at a much more reasonable price, but I do like this one. Not enough to fork over $24 for a full size, mind you, but it was nice to try it.

Last thing in my box was dr. brandt pores no more vacuum cleaner. I wish I could give an honest review of the product, but my sample was nearly empty! It’s supposed to “degunk pores for fewer blackheads” & give spotlight ready smooth skin. I wouldn’t know, though. 😦

September wasn’t a total bust for me, I’ve certainly had worse boxes, but it wasn’t a home run, either. But hey, the products I liked, I really liked, so I consider that a win!

Battle of the BB Creams

Summer is upon us & with the heat & humidity comes the inevitable need to alter our make-up routines. It’s time to ditch the heavy foundations & break out the BB Creams!

There are a plethora of BB Creams out there, but today I’m going to rank my top 3 BB Creams that are affordable for everyone (let’s face it, sometimes “expensive” doesn’t mean “best”):

My 3 favorite BB Creams

MY #3 FAVORITE BB CREAM: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream says it’s an 8-in-1 skin perfecting beauty balm that:

-blurs imperfections
-adjusts to skin tone
-has SPF 30
-has 0% oils or other heavy ingredients

This BB Cream has a sheer, buildable coverage that really does adjust to your skin tone; I have fair skin, so usually medium tone is too dark for me, but not so with this BB cream! It has a high SPF, which is a must for me, as most of my day is spent outside. It doesn’t feel heavy or oily…because it’s not! This comes in a 1 fl oz tube & is sold almost everywhere.

MY #2 FAVORITE BB CREAM: Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream

Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream says it’s a skin perfecting tinted moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 15.

Olay’s tinted moisturizer is my #2 BB Cream because it’s so moisturizing! I also like the light fragrance it has. A little bit of this product is all I need to use; if I put too much on it looks like I’ve been in a sauna all day. It comes in a 2.5 fl oz tube & again, is available almost everywhere. The cost is a little bit more than the Maybelline BB Cream, but you get more than twice the amount of product, so that’s a win, IMHO. Plus, I love the scent of this stuff! 😛

MY #1 FAVORITE BB CREAM: Avon Ideal Flawless BB Cream

Avon Ideal Flawless BB Cream also says it’s a 10-in-1 skin perfecting beauty balm with SPF 15.

Avon’s Ideal Flawless BB Cream is my #1 choice in BB Creams for several reasons; it’s light weight on my skin while still giving me the coverage I want, it’s buildable without making me look shiney or product caking, it adjusts to skin tone & really gives a naturally flawless look. Just to name a few! It comes in a 1 fl oz tube & costs $10 (but goes on sale often!). You can order online, or through an Avon sales rep. This BB Cream is my must have for summer! It does everything the expensive creams do, at a fraction of the cost!

Do you use BB cream? If so, which brand do you prefer? Which would you love to try?

I’m married to the sweetest man in the world! He rolls his eyes at my ever-growing collection of make-up, but he keeps right on enabling my addiction. 😀

Avon All-in-One Make-up Kit

Avon had this All-in-One Make-up Kit on sale for Mother’s Day for $14.99 (that’s 60% off!) & my hubby bought it for me. We may not have human children, but our 2 little pooches more than act like toddlers. 😛

Anyway, back to the make-up. This kit folds up into a nice & shiny little black box with AVON written on the top. The actual kit includes, from left to right: 2 lip brushes, 5 lip colors, 5 eyeshadow, 2 eyeshadow brushes, 2 bronzers & a brush, & 3 blushes & a brush. Also included were an Avon Ultra Color Lip Crayon in Risque Rose, Avon Ultra Luxury Eyeliner in Black & an Avon Mega Effects Mascara in Black. Did I mention all of this only cost $14.99?!

I love the make-up palette! I’ve been using it for the past few days & my only complaint about it is the brush for the bronzers & brush for the blushes don’t really pick up the product like a real brush would (I’ve got plenty of brushes, though, so not a deal-breaker for me).

The lip crayon is awesome! It’s a very pretty pink color, with sparkles in it & it’s a really long-lasting lip color. The eyeliner is OK; it’s not water proof, but it is creamy & lasts a while. The mascara, though, is uh-maz-ing! I bought this product when Avon first came out with it ($10, btw) & this is my go-to mascara, hands down. Instead of your average wand, this has a bendable brush so you can literally paint your lashes & do so easily! BEST. MASCARA. EVER. By far.

Overall, super happy with everything! Avon has never disappointed me!

Maybe it’s Maybelline!

Yesterday my mom was talking to a friend (about me) & told her,

Maybe she’s born with it!

Aww! It was very sweet of her & highly amusing to me; I was wearing my Maybelline Wonder Finish Powder Foundation! My mom & I got a good chuckle when I told her. She couldn’t tell I had any make-up on (reminder: take her to get new glasses!).

Anyway, I love this medium-coverage foundation. It applies easily, doesn’t get cakey & looks natural. A few pats with this & I’m ready to go! I especially like that I can buy it locally instead of online (there is something to be said about easy availability!) & at a reasonable price.

I also got Maybelline Mousse Matte Foundation. It was a BOGO, so you can’t blame me! If I loved the powder, then my feelings about this Mousse Matte Foundation can only be described as…euphoric! It applies easily & smoothly, mattifies, covers imperfections without the need for a concealer & leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. A little dab’ll do ya, too!

Maybelline Foundations

I still like my Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation, but am super happy that I rediscovered the awesomeness of Maybelline (when I first started wearing make-up I always bought Maybelline). Goes to show, expensive isn’t always better.

May IPSY Sneak Peak

Because I have the patience of a 5 year old on Christmas Eve, I had to peek at what’s going to be in my IPSY Glam Bag this month!

At first I was pretty bummed; the only make-up I’m getting is the Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo. 😥

Then my loving hubby pointed out a few things:

You’ll use the sunscreen this summer! & look, it’s Hey Honey Take It Off! » wink, wink«

So yeah. I’ll give it all a try before ruling it out. I’ve noticed anyway though, that while I’m usually bummed about a product at first, I end up liking said product immediately after trying it.

& that’s what ipsy is about, anyway…trying new things! & for $10/month, it’s a steal. Getting more excited about my bag as I type!

February IPSY

Well, this month’s glam bag had a lot of potential, but my specific bag? Very disappointing. Pretty much the only item I really, really like is the pop beauty lip gloss.

I had been looking forward to the ZOYA nail color, and while it is a very pretty color (I got Dot), it took hours to dry, was goopy, and chipped within hours, with a top coat over it! Maybe my bottle was a reject or something, but I would not spend money on the brand in the future.

The eyelashes are from J.cat Beauty, in style EL15. My eyelashes are full and long enough that there’s no instance where I could see myself using them!

I also got a bottle of Fab First Aid Beauty deep cleaner with red clay. It’s OK. I already have a go-to cleanser, so…yeah. It might be great, but I don’t want or need it. Plus, on my quiz, I didn’t select any cleansers, as I only joined for the make-up.

I was looking forward to the eyeshadow from Jesse’s Girl, but didn’t get the colors I had hoped for. Wound up getting The Eyes Have It. Which is okay. Used it today. I’d definitely buy this brand if I wanted more eyeshadow!

The pretty pink bag made it all alright, though! Still, I hope March is a better month on IPSY.

January IPSY Bag!

This month, I was looking forward to everything in my bag, but most especially the (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm, as my lips have been insanely chapped for a month. While it does noticeably rehydrate my lips almost immediately, it’s no more long-lasting than the Avon Care Deeply lip balm I’ve been using. I do like the light mojito scent. Overall, exceeded my expectations.

The Yaby Liquid Foundation in Buff matches my skin color perfectly, which makes me love IPSY even more! Quite a few subscription services I’ve used in the past couldn’t understand what “fair” skin looks like, so to get a foundation that I can use, instead of give away, is awesome! It’s oil-free, too, which is a huge plus.

This month I was really excited to get the POREfessional by benefit. I really like the stuff, but it was such a small sample! I will probably only use this for nights out & such, as I’d like to make it last more than a day!

I also received a pack of 10 Make-up Cleansing Tissues by ABSOLUTE! (with pomegranate extract). These things are amazing! They even removed my water proof liner & mascara! Left my face clean, fresh & smelling good. I’m really thinking about buying more of these!

The 1 item I got that I wasn’t excited about at all was the Balanced Guru Balm Me Up Body Balm. I haven’t tried it yet, but it does smell very good. I’m not sure if this is meant to be used in the bath, or like any other body lotion? LOL!

All in all, this month was as awesome as usual! I know some people were mad at getting the cleansing wipes or something not make-up, but the items I got will be used. Plus, it’s a steal of a deal, no matter how you look at it.
